- Prevent the progressive, permanent loss of lung function which can accompany untreated asthma in children and adults.
- Prevent flare-ups of asthma symptoms that can lead to sick days, ER visits, and hospitalization.
- Promote normal lung function and normal physical activity levels.

- Normal lung function measured by peak expiratory flow (PEF).

Care Plan
- Begin with the basics.
- Use your controller medications as directed.
- Keep a Peak Flow meter handy and know the “zone system” for measuring wellness.
- Intervene promptly (with “quick relief” medicines) if your peak flow drops.
- Keep an Asthma Journal recording your symptoms and response to treatment.
- See your provider or seek emergency care immediately if you do not improve.
- Spirometry and asthma focused office visit yearly or as directed. Bring your journal!
